Alex Ferguson takes blame for poor league results, Dimitar Berbatov's slump in form
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson says he should take the blame for the club's failure to be at the top of the English Premier League, while he admitted he was also at fault for Dimitar Berbatov's downturn in form.
The Red Devils are currently sitting in second place in the EPL table, but are only behind Chelsea on goal difference after the Blues lost to Birmingham City on Saturday 20 November. However, United have drawn seven games this season and could have been
well ahead of Carlo Ancelotti's men at this point.
Ferguson has declared that he was at fault for the failure to win more of those games, and pointed to his decision to constantly change the strikers as the cause.
According to the Mirror, he said: "Perhaps I’ve changed things too much. We’ve been changing the strike partners quite a lot this season and I have to accept responsibility for that. I don’t think I’ve played the same team enough to get that level of consistency.
Now we have to look for more consistency in the team now. It’s time to wake up. We could be six points clear.”
Meanwhile, the Scot also shouldered the blame for Berbatov's recent lack of form. The Bulgarian got the season off to a strong stat, netting six goals in seven games, but he has failed to find the net in any of his last nine games and was dropped from the
starting line-up against Wigan Athletic on Saturday 20 November.
Ferguson told the Manchester Evening News: "In fairness to Dimitar’s situation we have been changing the strikers quite a lot recently. I think I have to accept the responsibility for changing it too much. Now we are going to have to be looking at getting
consistency of performances.”
