Alex Ferguson wary of Marseille threat in second-leg Champions League tie
Manchester United’s manager, Alex Ferguson has gone on to state that in order for his team to go on and beat Marseille in their second-leg tie in the Champions League, his side will have to be “Powerful.” United are currently finalizing their preparations
to host the French outfit, but don’t plan on leaving anything to chance. This is because in a strange turn of events, Marseille seem to have the upper hand going into the game.
The reason being that the last time these two sides met, which was in the first leg of this tie, both sides went on to cancel each other out in a stale mate. This means that if United have a scored draw with Marseille tonight, then the French team will go
through on away gaols. For this very reason, United can and should only consider going all out and getting the win under any and all circumstances.
When talking about the game against Marseille, Ferguson is reported to have said, “We are playing a very experienced, powerful Marseille team. We will have to play well. I thought Marseille were going for the 0-0 at home I must admit. Maybe they are the
ones who are confident. They are a good team, who will try to hit us on the counter.”
The manager then went on to turn his attention to the fact that his main advantage would be the home-crowd which is bound to turn up in numbers for the game. Ferguson then added, "In these games at Old Trafford and a home match in midweek it is always a
terrific atmosphere. That does help us and hopefully we will get the result we want."
At the moment things seem to be going United’s way, due to the fact that a number of the team’s injured players are now back in action for the team and are bound to cause havoc on the pitch. Antionio http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863, who had been out of action since September is
now fit and having already played a half against Arsenal, is bound to get his spot back in the starting eleven. On the other hand, Luis http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nani-c27299 seems to have made one of the fastest recoveries ever. The player was set to be out of action for nearly a month after
suffering a nasty gash on his shin courtesy of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jamie-Carragher-c17728. However the Portuguese winger was back in training with the squad yesterday, only a week after suffering the injury and is bound to feature for United later on tonight.
Ferguson seems to have already had his game plan set out for this encounter, as the manager stated that he was well aware of the fact that Marseille were going to attack his team on the counter. Nonetheless, with two of the best wingers in the business now
fit and rearing to go, United might just go on and hit their opponents on the break as well.
Despite Marseille having the away goal rule working in their favour at the moment, it just seems like United are still the firm favourites to progress from the tie. However anything can happen in a game of football and if the French side get their tactics
just right, they might be able to break United’s stubborn resolve.
