Alex Galchenyuk could be what Montreal Canadiens need for Long Term Success-NHL Special
The Montreal Canadiens are suffering, big time, and it is not surprising to hear that they might not be any better next season unless a miraculous boost of performance comes around their way, but if talking on ground realities is the way to go, than they
need to invest in long term projects.
One of those long term projects definitely needs to be the development, grooming and correct usage of prospect Alex Galchenyuk. The 18-year-old was freshly picked off the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft tree by the Montreal Canadiens as the
third overall and is definitely one of the players with the most potential out of his batch of prospectus candidates.
Montreal ended 2011-2012 regular season on the bottom of the Eastern Conference with 78 points, even below the New York Islanders, which is definitely a shame for one of hockey’s most celebrated and historic clubs. With so many Stanley Cup champions to their
name, the Montreal Canadiens have to work out their challenges before things get out of hand.
With a new general manager, staff, coach and line-up, the Canadiens are ready to take on all opposing forces next season when the lockout does come to an end, but until then, they have a gem of a player in their hands and letting go of that would be detrimental
to any future success.
Looking at Galchenyuk’s career in the minor leagues with the Chicago Young Americans back in 2009-2010 and Sarnia Sting most recently in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), the young centre has not only been amazingly consistent but has perfected his skill
set needed for that level of play.
The native of Milwaukee, United States, potted 87 points (44 goals, 43 assists) in just 38 games during his tenure with the Chicago Young Americans. He did not stop when moving on to a higher level of the Sarnia Sting, with 83 points (31 goals, 52 assists)
in 68 games played, showing his side of being a play maker and leader in times on need.
A skilled centre is not always easy to find in the NHL, but Alex Galchenyuk is definitely one that can be a leader for the Montreal Canadiens, if played the right way.
