http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Leicestershire-c807, in a County Championship Division Two match, played at College Ground Cheltenham, between
July 18 and 21.
While chasing a 222-run target to win, the Gladiators looked quite on course to a comfortable victory after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dan-Housego-c1305 and skipper Alex Gidman struck half centuries. However, the lower order capitulation meant the hosts were 13 runs short
of their third win of the season.
"It was a really great game to have at Cheltenham and everyone has been here supporting us day in and day out,” said the lanky right-hander who scored hard fought 62 runs to put his side in charge in the enthralling LV = County Championship
Division two match.
"We gave them an entertaining final day and I'm only sorry we could not give them a victory to send them home happy. But we produced a cracking game that ebbed and flowed and credit must go to both sides," he added further.
Gidman, who was last month released from captaincy responsibilities in the Friends Life T20 Tournament to focus on his batting, shared a 94-run stand with No. 3 batsman Dan Housego (the second highest partnership of the match), to tighten
Gladiators’ grip on the game in front of an adoring home crowd at Cheltenham.
Expressing satisfaction over his side’s batting, the home skipper said that it was not an easy wicket to bat. He also hailed the top order for laying a strong foundation at the top of the innings.
“We did pretty much everything we wanted with bat…we managed to lay a good base. I then came in and chanced my arm a bit, which was part of the plan, and we got it down to a winnable position,” said the Buckinghamshire born middle order
batsman.
He also credited Leicestershire bowlers for bowling some impressive spells in the death, to snatch the victory off their jaws. Admitting that it was tough pressurised chase, Gidman admitted said that his side lacked a little bit of composure
at the crunch time.
