Gloucestershire captain Alex Gidman has agreed on a new contract extension with the County Championship Division Two side that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2013 season.
The current deal of the former England A batsman was due to expire at the end of 2011 summer, but the extended contract means the 29-year-old will stay at the Nevil Road until 2013.
Gidman was delighted to sign a new contract with the county. He hoped that his next three years at Bristol would be exciting for him as well as the county.
“I am really pleased to have agreed a new contract with Gloucestershire,” he said. “I see this as one of the most exciting times of my career both personally and for the club.”
Gidman, who started his first-class career with Gloucestershire County Cricket Club back in 2001 in C&G Trophy, said that he has been lucky to play with some fantastic cricketers in his career.
“I have been lucky enough to play with some fantastic cricketers over the years and have won two trophies,” said Gidman. “Now it is my turn to try and lead a younger team to similar success. The club is moving forward and I want to
support the direction both on and off the pitch.”
The news was announced by the Gloucestershire Chief Executive Officer Tom Richardson on the official website of the club. The county CEO expressed gladness over the extension of contract in his statement. He said that Alex had been
a key player for them for a number of years and they see him as an important part of the team in future.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richardson-c85395 further added that the club is committed to creating a vibrant new-look side capable of challenging others in all forms of the game. He said that the former England A batsman will be crucial in guiding the new team to success
in future.
