http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gloucestershire-c785’s List A and first-class captain Alex Gidman is optimistic about his side’s chances of making it to the semi-finals of this year’s Clydesdale Bank 40 tournament, despite facing comprehensive defeats in their last two one-day fixtures.
Gidman is looking to the next two CB40 fixtures, against Holland and Lancashire as opportunity to improve their ranking in the Group A and qualify for the next round.
"We are in still in a position where we can top the group and qualify for the semi-finals.
"We have massive games coming up against Holland and Lancashire, two of our main rivals, and if we win both we will be in control of the group.
The Gladiators go into Friday’s List A match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Netherlands-c753 at the back of two heavy defeats white ball defeats. They faced a 10-wicket thrashing at the hands of Middlesex, in a Group A Clydesdale Bank 40 match, played at College Ground, Cheltenham,
last Sunday, before facing a 39-run defeat in the Friends Life T20 tournament quarterfinal against Sussex, at Hove, on Tuesday.
Gidman admitted that they failed to perform to their potential in the last two games, however he was confident his side would make a strong come back in the ensuing games.
“We have had a couple of poor days, but we are more accustomed to winning than losing this summer and we are more than capable of picking ourselves up,” said the lanky middle-order batsman.
“When we have had poor performances and results previously this season we have invariably bounced back quickly and responded well. We need to do that again,” he added further.
With four wins and three defeats in eight outings so far, the Gloucestershire Gladiators find themselves fourth on CB40 Group A points table. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lancashire-c806 also have five
wins in their accounts, from nine and seven games respectively.
The Gladiators were on Tuesday knocked out of the Friends Life T20 title contention, after losing to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sussex-c852 Sharks by 39 runs, in the Flt20 quarterfinal, played at County Ground, Hove.
