Alex Gonzalez: The new shortstop for the Milwaukee Brewers – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers have reported to shown interest in signing a one-year contract with Alex Gonzalez, having a vesting option for 2013. On Sunday, December 11, the reports emerged that the 34-year-old shortstop will be part of the Brewers which will beyond
any shadow of a doubt, fill the gap in the roster.
However, as the reports popped up, the Brewers’ general manager Doug Melvin neither confirmed nor dismissed the agreement. To be part of the team, Gonzalez might well have to undergo a physical exam.
The physical exam is due in large part to another set of news reports that suggest that Gonzalez may have to travel to the United States from Venezuela for the checkup. Until he comes back, there will be no final report on it.
One of the things that made Gonzalez conspicuously talented in the eyes of the critics and pundits was his 2011 performance. He was part of the Atlanta Braves this year, having hit 56 RBIs and 15 homers with no less than .241 average.
That reads well for a player who eyes a bigger team to be part of and represent. All the same, he is a wonderfully defensive player, something that is an added advantage to him, a trait that adds to his credentials as a player.
Gonzalez ‘s 270 on-base percentage will be a boon for the Brewers, adding to their supreme confidence. Given the fact that the Brewers elevated themselves to National League Championship Series with their strong offence, the new induction will be an added
advantage.
All the same and pretty interestingly, within four years this will be their fourth shortstop that the Brewers will have on their side. Another backup will be required for the team before the commencement of next season.
What the Brewers are seriously looking into and pondering over, for now is the recently emerged case of drug tests of Ryan Braun, the famous slugger of the team, that continue to add to confusion. With Gonzalez present in the team, the Brewers will have
enough space to address the issues with more confidence and with much more attention.
