Alex Goode wants to play for England in 2011 Rugby World Cup - Rugby News
English player, Alex Goode, is desperate to make his place in the final squad for the forthcoming 2011 Rugby World Cup which is scheduled for September in New Zealand . Goode is very eager to represent his national side in the global gathering and is ready to play at any position he is offered. England is one of the best sides of the world and they remained runner-ups during the last showpiece, played in France.
The 23-year-old Goode has played for his national side as an U20 player in 2008. He participated in nine games for England U20 team and scored 84 points and helped his side in to the final of 2008 IRB Junior World Championship. As soon as he left the U20 team he was signed by local club Saxons in 2009.
Alex Goode is one of the few players who have marked their positions for the national sides of England at every age group. He recently participated in Aviva Premiership tournament playing for Saracens and led his side to lift the trophy.
He only has a few chances to grab the attention of Martin Johnson, the manager of England’s national rugby team, and get selected in the national side. One such chance is in the Churchill Cup before the start of 2011 Rugby World Cup.
Talking about his possible inclusion in the national side, he told reporters, “It is likely I will be at full-back but with Stephen Myler pulling out I could well be used as cover at 10. They see me as a full-back for England, so I think it would be a big call to play me at fly-half as haven't played much there this season.”
He further said, “I trust in my own ability and I'm confident in the way I play, so I hope some good performances at the Churchill Cup will put me in the picture. I'm young and impatient so I hope that I can get the chance to impress.”
Churchill Cup will be kick off on Saturday, June 3 in Northampton, as the England Saxons will take on the USA in the opener.
