Alex Gordon and Kansas City Royals could sign a multi-year deal – MLB
According a reputed baseball website, Alex Gordon and Kansas City Royals are still looking to sign a multi-year deal. Gordon, who displayed some high quality hitting skills last season, is convinced that he can have an excellent future with the Royals as that is where he posted career best stats.
The left handed striker has given considerable results since the start of his Major League Baseball career. However, it wasn’t until 2011 when he truly realised his immense potential. Earlier, Gordon had asked for $5.45 million for one year but the Royals offered him just $4.15 million in return. After negotiating for several weeks, both parties finally reached an agreement at $4.45 for one year on Thursday.
Gordon’s .299 average last season goes on to suggest that he is in his comfort zone right now. In addition to his batting skills, Gordon proved to be an asset for the Royals in left field. Showing his athleticism and agility on field, he won first Golden Glove Award of his career in 2011.
Although discussions for a multi-year deal have been on the slower side, Gordon is hopeful to upgrade his contract before the start of Spring Training. Gordon, who still has two years left on his contract, is convinced that the Royals also want to solve this issue and they can offer him something better before the 2012 Opening Day.
"We've had discussions and it's been kind of slow, as far as I've taken it," Gordon said. "I still have two years left with the Royals, and I'm hoping we can get something done before then. ... I know both sides want to get it done."
Royals’ General Manager Dayton Moore acknowledged by saying that the club will do everything to give long term contracts to the players. The management and the officials are working hard to make the best possible choices.
"We're going to work very hard to get all of our good players signed long-term and, in Alex's case, obviously we have him under control for 2012 and 2013. And we'll continue to work toward something," Moore said.
With Gordon’s hitting skills, Moore will be looking to have depth and consistency in the Royals' batting line-up. Gordon, on the other hand, will be hoping to maintain his impressive form into the next season to help his side win the American League Central title.
