Alex Gordon homers as Kansas City Royals overcome Texas Rangers 6-3 – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals bounce back strongly to overcome the mighty Texas Rangers 6-3 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on Tuesday, September 4 in second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Royals starting pitcher Jeremy Guthrie produced an outstanding performance as he gave up just five hits and two runs in seven solid innings to snatch his fourth win of the season. Credit should be given to Guthrie who created all sorts of problems for one
of the best batting line-ups in the American League.
Relief pitchers Kelvin Herrera and Greg Holland also pitched with great control and accuracy allowing just two hits and a run in two innings to hold off the Rangers.
"That's a big play," Ned Yost said. "You're staring down the barrel of being down 3-0 and you've got an All-Star pitcher on the mound with a tremendous offensive club. To pick a runner off third base and keep it 2-0, you still feel like you've got a chance
for something to happen, and it did."
Rangers’ starter, on the other hand, Matt Harrison conceded eight hits and five runs in just over four innings to take his 15th loss of the season. Surely, he will be looking to put things back on the right track in his next start.
Elvis Andrus provided Rangers with a decent start as he homered to left in the first inning to put his side on the board. Mitch Moreland doubled the lead to 2-0 with a double to deep right centre. Alcides Escobar brought Royals back into the contest as he
doubled to left in the third inning.
"From experience, he likes to pound me in with fastballs," Gordon said. "He does a pretty good job of laying it on the inside corner. It's a tough pitch to hit. I just tried to wait him out and get a pitch out over the plate."
Billy Butler hit a sacrifice fly to centre and Alex Gordon hit a home-run to centre in the fifth inning to give Royals complete control of the situation.
The Royals will definitely be happy with their performance as they managed to beat the mighty Rangers.
