Alex Gordon interested in multi-year deal, talks about team becoming playoff contenders
Kansas City Royals’ Outfielder Alex Gordon talked to the press from the Les Milgram award ceremony on Wednesday, November 2, about a lot of topics. Most of them dealt with his resurgence in the major league circuit as a high rated hitter and fielder. The
player picked up a gold glove award recently and about 12 hours later, he managed to lift the Les Milgram award for the Royals’ Player of the year.
After having four average seasons, Gordon has come back to play like a different player. He was involved in 151 games during the season and he either came off as a third slot hitter or a leadoff hitter. He had a batting average of .303 and it happens to
be his highest statistical standing in his career. He collected 101 runs, 23 homers and 87 RBIs in the season under Ned Yost’s managerial guidance.
The player was mostly sidelined during the years of 2009 and 2010 due to a hip surgery and a broken finger. In 2010 he was sent to Triple – A Omaha in a bid to brush up his skills. The player has done well now and his fielding transition from a third baseman
to left fielder has earned him a lot of praise. He wants a multi-year deal but there has been no negotiation so far. He is arbitration eligible though and there will probably be a meeting on the issue soon.
"Whatever happens is going to happen. I want to stay in Kansas City, I love it in Kansas City and hopefully we can get that done and move on to focusing on the season."
On the other hand, the player has never been in the playoffs before and now he is hoping to do his best to get the club there.
"I've been here and I haven't been in the playoffs yet. First you have to get in the playoffs, and you have to go from there. You saw it with the Cardinals this year - probably not the favourite team to win the World Series or even make the postseason, so
it can happen. I know the guys on the team right now believe in each other and know that we have a great team coming back for next year."
With players like Eric Hosmer in the midst, there is a good chance for an ignition in play, next year.
