Alex Gordon not concerned about Detroit Tigers-Prince Fielder deal – MLB News
Alex Gordon is not concerned about Detroit Tigers-Prince Fielder deal, according to a source. The left handed striker signed a $4.45 million contract with Kansas City Royals on Thursday and he has already started to train for the upcoming Spring Training session. Since making his Major League Baseball debut, Gordon has improved his game play significantly and he is one of the best hitters in the American League right now.
Detroit Tigers signed a multi-year $214 million contract with Prince Fielder two weeks ago. Last season, the Tigers were outplayed in the post-season. With Fielder’s presence in the batting line-up, Dave Dombrowski will be expecting to reach the World Series this season. However, Gordon is convinced that the deal will not affect the Royals’ preparation for the upcoming season.
"They made a pretty big pickup, but we've got to focus on our team, ourselves and not worry about what other teams are doing," Gordon said. "I think if we focus on what we're doing, we're going to be just fine. I can speak for the position players. We have about 10 or 15 guys out here, right now -- and there are a lot of pitchers."
"We're not getting after it too much, it's pretty laid-back. ... But there are a lot of guys out here, and it's good to see that," He further added.
Undoubtedly, Fielder-Tigers agreement can play a crucial role in deciding the outcome of the regular season but the Royals will be looking to concentrate on their own game play instead. Signing Gordon, Dayton Moore’s Royals have also managed to avoid arbitration.
The general manager is now looking to build a team that is strong enough to challenge the Tigers for the American League title. He will be hoping to execute his strategies to perfection to upset the favourites this season.
Gordon, on the other hand, will be looking to make the most of available opportunities before the start of Spring Training. Last season, He hit .299 with the bat and he also won his first ever Golden Glove Award in left-field. He will be hoping to continue his excellent work in 2012 to make a name for himself.
