Alex Hales’ half-century gave http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nottinghamshire-c826 a victory over Warwickshire: Friends Life Twenty20
Nottinghamshire overcame http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862 by 10 runs in a closely fought match of the Friends Life Twenty20, at the Trent Bridge, Nottingham, in England, on Saturday, June 11, 2011.
The hosts managed to post a decent total of 173 runs, courtesy a brilliant half-century from opening batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alex-Hales-c985, who top scored the match with 67 runs.
Warwickshire fought tooth and nail but were restricted to 163 for seven in their allotted 20 overs and lost the match.
Star Australian batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-John-Hussey-c52953, Nottinghamshire’s skipper, decided to bat first after winning the toss. The conditions were perfect for the batsmen as the wicket was hard and dry. However, the pitch was expected to get slower in the second half of
the match.
However, the hosts didn’t get off to an ideal start, losing opening batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Matthew-Hendrik-Wessels-c75170, early on. He tried to attack the opposition and smashed one six before he was dismissed for seven runs.
This brought Australian all-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Voges-c925, at the crease. He batted nicely alongside Hales and the pair put together 83 runs for the second wicket partnership.
Voges failed to carry onto the start to his innings though, as he was sent back to the pavilion after adding 39 runs to the total, using 26 deliveries. He smashed five fours in his nicely paced innings.
Hussey was unable to get going in the match and was dismissed after scoring just six runs from the same number of balls.
Hales, who made the most of the batting conditions, reached 67 runs off 40 before following Hussey to the pavilion. The stylish opener clobbered 11 fours in his knock and laid a solid platform for the lower-order batsmen of his side.
Conditions went against the batsmen over time, especially as the ball got older. However, this didn’t stop the middle-order player, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Samit-Patel-c2426, from playing attacking cricket.
He scored an unbeaten 37 from 26 deliveries, with the help of three fours and one massive six. His effort guided the home team’s total to 173 in 20 overs.
Warwickshire’s bowlers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Steffan-Andreas-Piolet-c91003, picked up a couple of wickets each in the match, but failed to stop the flow of runs.
The visitors lost three quick wickets for just 28 runs on the board, once they came out to bat.
However, a 47-run stand between Maddy and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jamie-Oliver-Troughton-c66247 rescued the team from trouble.
The two were dismissed after they scored 28 and 24 respectively and things looked grim for Warwickshire then onwards.
The home team was cruising towards victory, but a blistering performance from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Christopher-Roger-Woakes-c50993, stunned everyone.
The youngster scored an unbeaten 44 off just 19 balls, striking five fours and two thunderous sixes. His effort went in vain though, as the match was still bagged by Nottinghamshire.
