He came, he saw and conquered; that is all a person can say about Alex Higgins. The story of this person is full of twists and trails which depicts the snooker legend’s unpredictable character.
The man having all the capabilities of clutching the eyes and ears of the world died and faded forever. Yes we are talking about snooker’s icon, Alex the Hurricane Higgins, who is not with us anymore but his achievements and glory will be remembered forever.
Who knew that a rough kid from Belfast, Ireland would grab all the charms and charisma of snooker like a hurricane? Yes he was known as a hurricane; a player with the world’s most orthodox style to play and beat the opponent in a shocking manner. His shocking death in his home town has left the world with mourns and tears. Higgins died after suffering from throat and palate cancer and faced the pain of being alone for a long time.
Despite of his rough and raunchy persona he is still loved by most of the snooker fans. He had a personality to draw attention. No doubt he was a player and an icon for his game. Higgins is considered to be one of the greatest sporting personalities of United Kingdom as he has done something which has never been done by any other snooker player before. The love and mourns of the people on his funeral on Monday in Belfast was a vivid proof of his respect and honour in the people’s heart for him.
Alex Higgins skills were considered as rough, fast and outrageous but his accuracy with pace made his style of playing; worth watching.  This boy started his game from the streets of the small town of Belfast and entertained the crowd from the beginning.
He played for money and the lust for money took him to the bigger stages and platforms. He was no doubt an eye candy for the crowd. Higgins was known for his fast assessment and deadly implementation of shots. He gained the fame and focus of the media within weeks and that makes him a hall of famer for the world of snooker.
The snooker world championship in February 1972 made him the world’s best snooker player. At that time snooker was not considered as a game to clutch the glitz and glamour for the world but it was the hurricane who gave an ample impression of this sport to the people with his starry, scandalous character and persona. Higgins played at the top in his 10 years of professional career during which he grabbed, two Masters Titles and two World Champion titles.
Alex Higgins, the Hurricane, spent his life in the starry spotlight of scandals and conspiracies. Snooker was bread and butter to him. Despite of going through too many offences of discipline he was still appreciated because his fashion had always been unique and fascinating for the people. Incidents like grabbing a referee from the throat, head butting and punching a press officer gave him a villainous reputation in the general public but it was his character which remained dominant throughout the life.
The name of Alex Higgins will always shine as one of the greatest players of snooker the world has ever seen. Despite of his uncooperative, unpredictable nature the legend is still remembered with grief and joys.  His friends say that he was unpredictable, awkward and passionate because some people are different and less social. He gave the game of snooker a new lively look which is no doubt a gift to all of his followers and current snooker champs from him. The players of his time will remember him and his enthusiastic approach for the game. They will also miss the drama and passion he once created with his game.
