Alex McLeish hails creativity of his players as Aston Villa triumph against Wigan Athletic – EPL News
Aston Villa boss http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 McLeish has hailed the performance of his attacking players in the Villans impressive 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic at Villa Park.
The Lions stretched their unbeaten run in the ongoing 2011/12 Barclays Premier League season as they beat the Latics rather comfortably. Strikes from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Darren-Bent-c10358 helped the hosts to secure their second win of the season.
McLeish has expressed his delight over Aston Villa’s first league win after four successive draws and the Scotsman has credited his creative players for getting all three points at the Villa Park.
Aston Villa manager told the reporters, “I thought it was a good performance. At last we had some big levels from our creative players."
The Scotsman believes that the Lions were missing the creativity factor in the last matches as they had scored only seven goals before hosting Wigan Athletic.
“I think that’s probably what’s been missing in the past few games, because we have had an awful lot of opportunities without executing the final ball and for me that’s happened in a lot of games,” the Scotsman added.
The former Birmingham City boss was particularly impressed by the Villans’ summer signing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barry-Bannan-c7309, claiming that the trio holds the key for his side’s successful season.
McLeish, however, singled out http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stephen-Ireland-c34149 for praise as the Irish international hugely impressed against the Latics. The former Manchester City player orchestrated Aston Villa’s play and helped the home side dominate the game in the middle of the park.
“And Stevey Ireland I thought, when he got settled into the game, had some great touches, some clever, some ingenuity and that’s what makes the difference,” Alex McLeish concluded.
After claiming all three points against Wigan Athletic, Aston Villa are currently placed seventh in the Premier League standings with 11 points to their name in seven matches.
The Villans will play their next match against Manchester City on October 15, 2011.
