Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish is pleased with the return of Darren Bent and Emile Heskey from injury. He has claimed that the added competition will help the Villans in the ongoing 2011/12 Barclays Premier League.
The attacking duo returned to first team action in Aston Villa’s 2-0 win against Wigan Athletic at Villa Park.
The 27-year-old started the match against the Latics and also went to score the second goal for the hosts. A first half strike from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gabriel-Agbonlahor-c14288 and Bent’s goal eased Aston Villa to a comfortable win against Wigan Athletic.
Heskey was introduced in the 57th minute and the English international gave a decent performance on his return from a hamstring injury.
McLeish was pleased to see his two main strikers back in action and has claimed that the duo’s return has increased the depth of the Villans squad.
The Scotsman told the reporters, “It was great to get the injured players back today and it gave us great competition and it was good to look at the bench and say 'there’s some great experience there'. It’s a challenge to be better than each other and may
the best man win. I think the players have been very keen to get results”
Though Aston Villa are unbeaten in the ongoing 2011/12 Barclays Premier League, it was Aston Villa’s only second win of the campaign and also their first after four successive league draws.
The former Birmingham City manager was impressed with the Villans defence, as they secured their third clean sheet of the season against Wigan Athletic. McLeish believes that his summer signing, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Shay-Given-c33284, has been very influential and the Irishman’s performances
hold the key to the club’s successful campaign.
“But we’ve had really solid performances from our defenders and Shay, who will have to be the most consistent players in the team,” Alex McLeish concluded.
Given has featured in six matches for Aston Villa since joining from Manchester City in the recently concluded summer transfer window.
