Alex McLeish optimistic even after Birmingham City’s defeat
Birmingham City manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 McLeish remains considerably optimistic even after the English side’s defeat at home by Newcastle United.
Having excellent goal-scorers such as Peter Lovenkrands and Leon Best, Newcastle clinched a victory after their five games without a success to their part. On the other side, Birmingham’s chain of five successful matches came to a halt when they lost the match
2-0 to Newcastle.
The former Scottish footballer supported his team by declaring that the squad’s recent spectacular performances completely masked the results of this match. McLeish appealed to all his enthusiasts as not to get disheartened by the sudden upturned scenario.
However, the Scottish manager pointed out that the two goals that touched the back of the net, could have been easily avoided by his team. He felt that his side was somewhat unfortunate this time.
The English side coach told the media that they enjoyed a full fantastic month in terms of results. He also said there had been some excellent performances - inspirational and heroic. But when his side lost the match, they looked pretty much flattened, the
coach admitted.
The Scott observed, "To lose the first goal the way we did and so early, it goes against exactly what I thought about the team at the weekend – where the concentration level was phenomenal from start to finish.”
“My parting shot to the players [before kick-off] was starting fast and get Newcastle on the back foot. We had them in their own half, a throw-in by the corner flag and next minute they were up the other end and had scored," he added.
The coach also pointed out that a reason behind the loss was the fatigue of his squad. He accepted that exhaustion could be a potential cause for the team’s languid performance and probably, that was why even preventable goals couldn’t be blocked.
The manager also seemed apprehended by new additions to the injury list. Apparently, a few of his teammates picked up some injuries during the match. McLeish, who was planning to send some players off for rest during the FA Cup tie against Sheffield, will
now have to re-consider his stratagem for the greater good.
