Alex McLeish has expressed his discontentment with the Villans’ unimpressive defending in the recent 4-1 defeat against Manchester City at Etihad Stadium.
Aston Villa’s impressive unbeaten run in the Barclays Premier League came to a disappointing end after Alex McLeish’s men gave a below par performance against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Mancini’s side.
The visitors were completely outplayed by the Manchester side as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/James-Milner-c17706 scored to put Roberto Mancini’s men at the top of the Barclays Premier League table.
McLeish has expressed his satisfaction over the way his side started the match against City, as the Villans had a few chances to take the lead but were denied by the goalkeeper. However, the Scotsman was clearly unhappy over the fact that his side failed
to build on their impressive start.
The Lions boss told the reporters, "I think it was a bad day at the office but to lose I'm extremely unhappy and disappointed, especially after the way we started the game.”
Aston Villa conceded two goals from set-pieces against Manchester City. Mario Balotelli scored an over head kick in the first half from a corner and Vincent Kompany soon headed home the second from yet another corner.
McLeish has bemoaned his players’ lack of concentration while defending set-pieces and believes that his side would have lost to any side with such poor standard of defence.
"If we lose goals in the way we did today, whether we play Man City or an amateur team, you're going to lose goals if you're not organised at set-pieces,” McLeish added.
The former Birmingham boss is unhappy that the Villans failed to execute their pre-match plans and added:
“They had three men in the box, Kompany had a free run for his goal and these things shouldn't have happened because we'd organised the players to pick up the important City targets and that's why I'm extremely disappointed.”
Following their defeat at Etihad Stadium, Aston Villa are now placed eighth in the Barclays Premier League standings.
