Alex McLeish unhappy with Aston Villa’s failure to convert draws into wins – EPL News
Aston Villa boss http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 McLeish has bemoaned the Villans lack of cutting edge in attack as they have failed to convert draws into wins in the ongoing 2011/12 Barclays Premier League.
The Birmingham based-club have won only one match so far this season and that solitary win came against Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 four weeks ago. However, McLeish’s men are yet to experience a defeat in the Premier League as they have drawn five matches so far.
Aston Villa recently endured a disappointing draw against QPR despite dominating the proceedings at the Loftus Road. The Lions scored the opening goal from the penalty spot before an own goal from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Richard-Dunne-c31070 in the 90th minute levelled the
score.
McLeish has bemoaned Villa’s failure to kill the game and said, “I’m gutted we threw it away in the dying embers of the game, after a second half performance which was much more what I expect of these players.”
The former Birmingham boss has expressed his displeasure over Aston Villa’s first half performance against QPR as the visitors were all over the place and looked completely out of depth.
McLeish believes that the Villans were fortunate not to concede a goal in the first 45 minutes, given their below par performance during the first half at Loftus Park.
“The first half was pretty woeful, and I let them know that at half time. Fortunately we restricted QPR in terms of guilt-edged chances in the first half.”
The Lions boss also hailed the performance of his defence that shone up and inspired the visitors throughout the game. However, McLeish has insisted that his team were unfortunate to concede a late own goal after such an impressive display.
“The back five defended well, and the irony of it is that the two top players ended up being involved in the equalising goal. I felt sorry for those guys," Alex McLeish concluded.
The Villans are currently placed eighth in the Premier League standings with eight points from six fixtures. They are expected to extend their unbeaten run when they face Wigan Athletic at Villa Park on October 1, 2011.
