Alex Meruelo guarantees he has ample resources to purchase and operate Atlanta Hawks: NBA Update
Nearly three months after Cuban-American businessman Alex Meruelo announced that he had reached an agreement to be the major owner of the NBA franchise Atlanta Hawks, rumours have become rife that the potential NBA owner lacks
the sort of funding required to complete the deal.
Alex Meruelo however recently put an end to all those vibes.
On Thursday, 27 October, the 49-year-old developer responded to reports doubting that he lacks financial resources to purchase Atlanta Hawks. The California based tycoon declared that he has enough money to easily buy and operate
Atlanta Hawks in the best ways possible and also re-iterated his commitment to the objective.
“I have more than ample resources to purchase and operate the Hawks in a first class manner. I am committed to the purchase of the Atlanta Hawks. While I can’t comment on the details of the approval process, I have and will do
everything I can to bring the process to a positive conclusion.” Alex Meruelo said.
Alex has already discussed the terms and conditions for purchasing the franchise with the Atlanta Spirit group, which is headed by Michael Gearon Jr. and Bruce Levenson. While both the parties have had an agreement, the deal awaits
the approval from National Basketball Association, whose authorization is a must to move ahead with the transaction.
Even though, neither Alex Meruelo nor Gearon and Levenson made any comments on the approval process, however both parties have not indicated anything which would create some doubt.
Last week, NBA approved the deal of Philadelphia 76ers however no word game from the league regarding Meruelo’s proposed purchase. The senior Vice President of Communications for the National Basketball Association, Tim Frank,
stated that there will be no comment from the association to declare the status of Alex Meruelo’s deal and people will know what’s going to happen only when the time comes.
According to reports, the league is checking the financial standing of the Cuban-American businessman in order to make sure the deal doesn’t hit a road block later.
In case, NBA disapproves the deal, Atlanta Spirits Group will retain the ownership and their heads might look for another buyer to sell the franchise.
