Alex Ovechkin's Heart still with Washington Capitals, will Return -NHL Lockout Update
The National Hockey League (NHL) being locked out has taken its toll on many players associated with the North American professional league, and Washington Capitals’ captain, Alex Ovechkin, was definitely one of them.
It was hard to let go of the place and fans that he dearly loves so much and move on to play abroad, but in a recent statement to a foreign source, the top Washington player is cited to have said that his heart and soul belong with the Capitals.
In previous comments while taking off to go play with the Dynamo Moscow of the Russian, Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), Alex Ovechkin had stated that he would not come back in any situation if salaries of players were slashed in a new labour agreement,
but it seems like the player has had a change of heart all of a sudden.
Winning the Stanley Cup is still something Ovechkin is hoping to do and returning to Washington to do it is certainly on his mind.
“Certainly. I am very comfortable in Moscow, Russia in general, but my soul is across the ocean, in the NHL, with Washington Capitals, with whom I still hope to win the Stanley Cup.
Alas, every week, even every day and hour, the hope that the NHL lockout will be solved, is decreasing,” Ovechkin is reported to have said to Igor Fein of vmdaily.ru.
Alex Ovechkin was drafted by the Washington Capitals as the first overall during round-one of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He has played in seven seasons with the Capitals up until now, boasting one of the best records in the league with 553 games played, 679
points, 339 goals and 340 assists.
The native of Moscow, Russia, was also locked on to the club prior to the 2008-2009 regular season by signing a huge 13-year, $124 million deal which will make him an unrestricted free agent by the end of the 2020-2021 regular season.
Hopefully for Alex Ovechkin and his fans, the lockout will come to an end soon and hockey will become a norm again in North America as fans year to see the puck drop.
