Alex Pang casts out Nyl Yakura in semi-finals of 2013 Canadian National Championships
Men’s Singles expert Alex Pang continued his unbeatable run in the semi-final round of Yonex Canadian National Championships and qualified for the title match on February 1, 2013.
He was up against a compatriot shuttler Nyl Yakura and this meeting prolonged for 39 minutes before ending with decisive figures of 21-14 and 25-23.
Though, the top seeded player of this tournament wrapped this crucial showdown in just two games but still he had to sweat hard to read a favourable result.
Meanwhile, Nyl Yakura also earned great deal of admiration for putting a decent show of badminton skills in both segments.
In the opening game, Alex Pang did not give his competitor enough time to get settled and confounded him with an intensive attack.
He unleashed a flurry of power packed strokes and established his grip with a decent total. He did not squander this early lead and piled up a mountainous figure of 11 before the mid-game break.
After the one-minute interval, Nyl made a swift progress and narrowed the gap on points table. He raised his chances by pocketing couple of valuable points in a row but then few back-to-back mistakes brought him down.
Alex Pang did not waste this counterattack opportunity and tipped the scale in his favour with a staggering knock.
At first, he widened the gap in third quarter of the set and then swept the table with a significant margin of 21-14.
However, it was not an easy ride to victory for him in the following game as the opposing shuttler displayed great fighting spirit and challenged him in all departments.
Initially, Alex was in strong position and it was felt that he will transform his 1-0 lead into a straight-set victory without any trouble.
The first sign of trouble came when Nyl prevailed in few consecutive rallies and brought the contest to right balance.
He matched his higher ranked rival’s skills all the way to game point situation and earned great deal of respect.
Finally, this nerve-racking tussle ended when Alex registered a tight yet decisive score of 25-23. He will now take on Bobby Milroy in the final round of Canadian National Championships.
