Alex Rios shines as Chicago White Sox rout Minnesota Twins 6-2 – MLB Update
Chicago White Sox crushed the Minnesota Twins 6-2 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois on Wednesday, September 5 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
It was an extremely important win for the White Sox, who managed to keep their first place at the top of American League East Division standings table. Credit should be given to the pitching rotation that executed the game plan to perfection to lay the foundations
of an impressive Chicago victory.
Starting pitcher Jake Peavy showed just what he is capable of as he gave up just five hits and a run in six effective innings to grab his tenth win of the season. Peavy has surpassed most people’s expectations this season and it will be interesting to see
if he can produce similar results on his next appearance to help the White Sox reach the playoffs.
"Every night you go out it's a huge challenge in front of you," Peavy said. "The bottom line is to grind and flat-out want it more."
Relief pitcher Brett Myers, Matt Thornton, Addison Reed combined to give just one run in three solid innings as the White Sox held on to their lead comfortably to take the series.
Right fielder Alex Rios played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash as he hit a grand slam in the first inning to put his in a commanding 4-0 position. Rios hit his second home-run to centre in the sixth inning to stretch the lead to 6-1.
"(Peavy is) the kind of guy you want after a game like that," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "He came out and battled, did great, and Rios hits a couple homers."
"He's been consistent all year long," Ventura said of Rios. "It's a good day for him to come in here, especially after last night, you get waxed and come back and get something early."
Manager Robin Ventura will be very pleased with his team’s effort in the finale of a must-win series. Surely, he will be expecting his men to continue the good work in their next series against the Kansas City Royals.
