Alex Rodriguez, Nick Swisher benched in Game 3 of ALCS – MLB Update
New York Yankees’ two star players Alex Rodriguez and Nick Swisher were benched in Game 3 of American League Championship Series against the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday, October 16 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan.
It was expected before the game that the Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi will shake things up and play without Alex Rodriquez and Nick Swisher.
“You want to be in there, but Skip is the manager and I back his decision, Bring a little speed in the lineup with Gardy coming in there. I’m going to come back to the ballpark and be ready to go tomorrow,” Swisher said as he explained about his manager’s decision which he totally respected and agreed with total consent.
Both Major League veterans are currently struggling to gain their offensive play while that was the main reason Girardi decided to bench these two.
"I let him know before I posted the lineup that I was gonna go with Chavy, These guys want to be in there and I understand that, and as I said, these are hard decisions but decisions I felt I needed to make," Girardi said about Rodriguez whom he still gives lots of credit of becoming an intelligent player in the Major League.
On the other hand, the decision to bench Rodriguez and Swisher could not work out for Girardi’s top offence hammered by Detroit Tigers’ 2012 Major League Most Valuable player Justin Verlander.
Verlander pitched over eight innings spell and allowed only one run and three hits. He struck-out three while remained consistent on 1.08 ERA.
Later in the game, when a couple of reporters asked Yankees' manager about the outcome of benching his two main players, he did not reply and remained silent.
Currently, right fielder Nick Swisher is out of form with his .272 hitting average. Though he has been playing throughout the season but as the post-season is underway, Yankees' manager decided not to go with him.
With the same hitting average that Swisher has, Rodriguez was also struggling to maintain his form which made Girardi go without him into the big Game 3 of the ALCS.
