Alex Rodriguez’s return still hangs in the balance. As he played the last of minor league rehabilitation game, although apparently well-fit to appear in the bigger show, he still is reluctant to join the team in the series against the Minnesota Twins.
He was expected to join the New York Yankees on Thursday, August 18. But to return with perfect outlook is what he is seriously considering now. "Offensively, I feel like I'm there," Rodriguez said Wednesday night. "The next day or two are the last final
stages."
The New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi understands the situation. Alex Rodriguez had personally spoken to him regarding his return, informing him of some problem with his knee that does not allow him for a couple of days to play.
With a torn meniscus surgery that Rodriguez had undergone, it becomes understandable why he does not show any sign of fitness for now. That is what Joe Girardi also keeps in mind.
"Our plans right now are still to bring him to Minnesota (today) if everything goes okay," Girardi said. "We may not activate him. We may have him just go through some things for a couple of days and wait a couple of days to activate him."
Whenever the return date is announced – that too with Rodriguez’s complete fitness, the third baseman will for sure attract enormous attention due largely to his overly long absence from the game because of his injury.
Expected to join the team on August 18, there was wide anticipation that he would be in action. Something that did not materialise.
One of the reasons why the New York Yankees desperately look for a quick return of Alex Rodriguez is because of the energy he instills in the team with his dominating presence. Secondly, there has been tough competition between the top three teams of Major
League Baseball ranking.
With the Philadelphia Phillies topping the list, having won 80 games, it is between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees that the second and third spot has to be firmly decided. The Yankees are third with 75 wins and Red Sox are up with 75 wins too with
a slight difference of points.
However, in the American League Standings, it is the Yankees that top the chart, having lost 47 games compared to that of the Boston Red Sox which fall behind with 48 losses. All in all, Rodriguez’s return will embolden the New York Yankees, making them
entitled for the bigger wins in the days ahead.
