Alex Rodriguez dominates as New York Yankees defeat the Baltimore Orioles 15-3 – MLB Update
Alex Rodriguez did not have to toil much to prove his mettle as an unsurpassable athlete on the field as the New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles 15-3 on Saturday.
Rodriguez started aggressively and executed it with perfection by driving in six runs. While the offence was unyielding, the defence remained impregnable in the form of CC Sabathia, and the Yankees established another show of their superiority at Baltimore.
Adrian Rodriguez who laid the foundation of victory for the Yankees on Saturday kicked off the campaign with all the traits of a master player. Such was his dominance on the field in the game that even the critics would feel obliged to recognise it as an
excellent and enviable feat.
He took on Brad Bergesen who was pitching for the Orioles and charged a double to deep right where Derek Jeter and Mark Teixeira scored. "It's definitely exciting. I appreciate the moment," Rodriguez said. "I think I've grown and matured to a level now where
I can appreciate it some and not just brush it off like I did in the past."
Bergesen gave up four hits in the very first inning, providing adequate enough opportunity for the Yankees to utilise. At the end of first inning, the Yankees had a 3-0 lead with Sabathia virtually unplayable. He was being supported by the defence and did
his best to maintain the lead. “Maybe that extra day did help him," manager Joe Girardi said. "I saw him [Friday] and he looked OK, but you know he had a low-grade fever and wasn't feeling great."
Maintaining their 3-0 lead until the fifth inning, the Yankees added another three runs in the sixth inning when Russell Martin once again punished the seemingly slowing velocity of Bergesen’s fast-balls. Martin homered to left center where Robinson Cano
and Nick Swisher scored, making it a 6-0 lead. Baltimore tried to come-back in the game in the seventh inning with an Adam Jones’ homer. Jones hit Sabathia and homered to right where Nick Markakis and Derrek Lee scored, bringing the lead to 6-3. However, Baltimore
did not know what was in store for them.
The eighth inning heralded the discomforting defeat for the Orioles when Alex Rodriguez, among others, did what a player of his calibre does. He homered to left for another three runs coupled with a Jorge Posada and Russell Martin’s valuable contribution.
The troika scored seven runs in the inning to take the lead to 13-3, virtually shattering all the hopes of the Orioles to go for solid offence in the face of Sabathia’s fast-balls.
Brett Gardener scored the final two runs for the Yankees, taking the lead to 15-3. The victory was sealed there and then. Only that it needed to be officially confirmed. Buddy Carlyle did it with ball in the ninth inning, as he rendered all the Orioles batters
helpless with his unhittable fast-balls and comfortably paved the way for a victory for the Yankees with an emphatic 15-3 lead.
Alex Rodriguez was certainly delighted and felt humbled with the performance. He was truly magnetic on the field and kept himself the focus of attention throughout the game. His performance, a milestone grand slam, was to be appreciated by himself among
other his several team-mates.
