Alex Rodriguez expected to undergo hip injury – MLB New York Yankees News

New York Yankees’ third baseman Alex Rodriguez is going to have surgery on his left hip, reports nydailynews.com. It seems Rodriguez will not have to worry about pinch hitting until next summer as he is likely to return in June or July.
It will be Rodriguez’s second hip injury in only three years. The procedure is expected to keep him out of the game for at least six months, the source further claimed. The 37-year-old had one of the worst seasons of his career last year as he managed to
hit just .272 with 18 home-runs and 57 RBI’s.
“We felt comforted that he was clean on the exam on his right hip, which is what he raised to Girardi in that dugout that day,” Cashman said, adding that Rodriguez had not indicated that he was in pain.
“There were no complaints prior to that, and no complaints after that,” the GM said.
Following his inconsistent performances, Rodriguez was benched in majority of the post-season games. As soon as the season ended, there were rumours that the Yankees could trade him for a young Minor Leaguer. Although he is one of the very few players to
hit 600 plus home-runs in his careers, his constant failures forced the fans to speak up against him.
In 2009, Rodriguez had a labral tear in his right hip repaired. Now, he is expected to undergo left hip surgery to repair a torn labrum. In a press conference, Yankees’ officials stated that the surgery will be performed in January as the doctors want A-Rod
to strengthen up his muscles for 4-6 six weeks before going for the operation.
“Despite a lot of the noise that gets surrounded with this particular player, when he's healthy and we can run him out there, we are significantly better franchise for it,” GM Brian Cashman said Monday. “We will wait for Alex. We will cushion the blow.”
Rodriguez had informed the Yankees about his injury after Game 3 of the American League Division Series against the Baltimore Orioles. Although initial MRI scans did not reveal any damage, Rodriguez did not take part in any post-season game afterwards.
