Alex Rodriguez looking for another strong season - MLB News
In an interview with a leading sports website, Alex Rodriguez stated that he does not want to be a permanent solution to the available DH slot in New York Yankees’ batting line-up. According to A-Rod, the role of designated hitter should be open to all batters in the line-up.
“I think the vision for us as a team is now ... you want the DH spot to be one that’s kind of a revolving door,” Rodriguez told ESPN Reporters. “I think a lot of us at some point or another, in such a long season, are going occupy that spot."
Rodriguez is a baseball legend. He had another decent season last year as he hit 16 home-runs with 62 RBI’s in 99 games. Missing quite a few games due to a serious knee injury, he will be looking to stay healthy and fit throughout the next season to yield positive results. Rodriguez’s health is going to be crucial for the Yankees as when he is fit, he can single handedly change the picture of the game.
Since recovering from his knee injury, the 36-year-old has done a tremendous amount of workouts and he is looking in great physical shape. Rodriguez will be looking to get things back on track with strong and consistent performances in the 2012 season.
Yankees, on the other hand, have been looking for a permanent designated hitter after they traded Jesus Montero to the Seattle Mariners. Replacing Montero with Michael Pineda, the management is certainly taking steps to strengthen their throwing unit.
“I feel pretty good right now and I hope [the procedure] helps me stay healthy and have ... a great year on the field,” Rodriguez said. “My workouts are going great, and I’m looking forward to report day on Feb. 24 [to] get started and have a great year for the Yankees.”
Rodriguez believes the trade is a good one for both parties. Jesus displayed some high quality power throwing last season to help the Mariners achieve significant results. With another electric arm in their arsenal, the Yankees will be looking to win the American League East title.
