Alex Rodriguez might face suspension for alleged participation in ‘Underground poker’ – MLB News
Alex Rodriguez is the highest paid baseball player to date and there are no doubts about his ability either. However, his standing and reputation demand him to act as a role model for the millions of people who follow him, which he has not been able to put
up with.
He has been is all sorts of controversies during his illustrious career and now, another incident has emerged to the forefront. Rodriguez, commonly known as A-Rod, is now under investigation of Major League Baseball for alleged involvement in high-stakes
illegal poker games.
This is not the first time that the star personality is under analysis for illegal activities. In 2005, Rodriguez was warned by his team New York Yankees and MLB commissioner Bud Selig to stay away from the underground gambling activities and not refraining
from such activities could likely end his career with a lifetime ban.
An MLB executive said that a possible suspension might be up for A-Rod. He said, “We're talking to people involved in the investigation and we're taking this very seriously. Because he had been warned about this before, I would say a possible suspension
would be very much in play.”
Rodriguez has also been informed about MLB’s stance on the issue and he will now be interviewed directly by Bud Selig for any possible explanations.
The high-profile baseball player played at least twice at a Beverly Hills mansion of a record executive where other renowned actors such as Leonardo DiCaprio were also present. Millions of dollars were at stake and cocaine was abundantly used.
When the owner of the $16.5-million mansion refused to pay after losing half a million dollars, a spat broke out and that is when A-Rod tried to distance himself from the game.
What was more intriguing than A-Rod’s participation in the high-stakes poker was the possible presence of Red Sox fans and actors Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. What would have happened if A-Rod lost some money to them?
As a possible outcome, the Red Sox fans could have simply asked the star hitter to strike-out every time he comes out to bat in the playoffs. And, given the nature of the game, Rodriguez would not have had much option but to agree.
These new allegations and rumours are posing more questions than answers. Rodriguez is currently on the disabled list with a knee surgery and is expected to be activated in a couple of weeks’ time. However, the repercussions of this incident might delay
his return to the Yankees. How harsh will MLB be with A-Rod, only time will tell!
