Alex Rodriguez will miss 4 to 6 weeks due to right knee injury – MLB News
New York Yankees’ third baseman, Alex Rodriguez suffered a serious injury on his right knee while running through the bases at Wrigley Field, on June 19. It was revealed in the examination of MRI that Rodriguez will have to undergo the surgical treatment
on his knee and is likely to be sidelined 4-6 weeks.
During the MRI on Friday, it was displayed that he had a slight tear in his cartilage.
Surgery was carried out to recover the torn meniscus in the Rodriguez right knee and he was operated at the University of Miami. After the rehabilitation, he will be the part of the Yankees’ offence when they have a series with the Tampa Bay Rays and the
Boston Red Sox for the American League East.
The 35-year-old Rodriguez had a promising season this year as he maintained his batting average to .321 and had nine RBIs in the previous 14 games of the current season. But unfortunately, he was unable to raise his batting average and will miss the rest
of the game until the World Series.
It was the frustrating moment for the Yankees’ roster when they lost their clean-up hitter in that terrible injury. The Yankees’ second baseman, Robinson Cano said, “It’s a huge blow, man. To lose a guy like him, that’s the kind of guy you really need in
your lineup, a guy who puts up good numbers, a guy who produces. It’s a big, big loss to lose a guy like him.”
The Yankees’ manager, Joe Girardi said, “There’s no doubt we’re going to miss him, but we need to find a way. As I’ve said several times already this year, some people are going to have to step up. Up to this point, this team has.”
The Yankees’ starting pitcher, CC Sabathia also had a meniscus tear in the last season but he underwent an offseason surgery and recovered soon. Sabathia also advised Rodriguez that he should follow the same arthroscopic procedure. Sabathia told that he
felt strong after the treatment but that affected his pitches a little bit.
Speaking to reporters, Sabathia said, “We definitely want him to be right. And he wasn't the past couple of (weeks). I didn't know it was a tear, but I knew something was wrong with him. It's going to be tough, because he's such a big part of our team.”
Rodriguez had won the 14 time All-Star award due to his exemplary performance. He struck 30 home-runs in 13 consecutive seasons but now he had only 52 RBIs with hitting average of .295. Eduardo Nunez will stand-in at third base as the replacement for Rodriguez
during the next few weeks.
