Alex Tait emerges on top at Electrinet Poverty Bay Pro-Am – New Zealand Golf
The four day championship of the Electrinet Poverty Bay Pro-Am teed-off today at the scenic par-72, Poverty Bay Golf Club, Gisborne. The first day produced some excitement as players enjoyed the course conditions. Local lad, Alex Tait, had a great start
to this tournament and is in the lead at the end of the round today.
Tait took advantage of his form and carded a great round of five-under par, 67. He leads the championship by a margin of just one stroke over his nearest competitors.
The New Zealander was hitting the ball powerfully off the tees and some of his approach shots were simply text book material. He had a total of six birdies and only had to drop one shot. Tait had a drop shot due to a poor drive on par-4, 7th.
Tait was quite satisfied with the way he was swinging and putting on the fast greens. This was a great opportunity for him to maintain this lead and win the four day championship. He was looking in good form during his round as he holed some few long putts
for birdies.
Douglas Holloway is placed in second place on the leader board after the first day concluded. He carded a composed round of four-under par, 68 which included two bogeys. Holloway ended up with six birdies on his score card. He was in good shape with his
hot putter and had a good read on the difficult greens.
Holloway was overwhelmed with his performance and is looking to keep his birdie touch during the next three rounds. This is a good early start for the professional who is hoping for another win in his career.
Hamish Robertson managed a round of three-under par, 69 on the first day. He had a good solid round and made only three birdies during his round. He missed quite a few short birdie putts and was disappointed with his putting stroke.
Robertson was hitting the ball well but failed to putt well on the greens. He is just two strokes behind the leader and is confident of posting his name on the leader board after the second round finishes tomorrow.
Second day of this 54-hole championship will start tomorrow.
