Alex Zanardi rules out DTM switch after Paralympics triumph – Formula 1 news
Former Formula 1 driver, Alex Zanardi has said that he will not take part in DTM and is just looking forward to enjoy his time after achieving great success in this year’s Paralympics.
Zanardi tested a DTM BMW M3 during the last month at the 40th anniversary of motorsport division of the German car manufacturer. Moreover, he has been surrounded by many speculations after his Paralympics triumph that he will participate in DTM
next year. However, the Italian has completely discharged all the ongoing rumours and has said that he has no such plans.
Even though, he said that they had some talks with BMW about switching to DTM, but he decided to keep his focus on cycling only because he won’t be able to handle so many things at the same time.
“We did have a conversation about taking it seriously further on but I decided it would be a little bit too much for me to be involved full-time for the whole season next year,” he said in an interview with The Telegraph.
Furthermore, he said that he is earnestly looking forward to spend time with his son. Therefore, he has turned down the decision to participate in DTM.
“It would mean I wouldn't have time for things I'd enjoy - like cycling and fishing with my son – so I decided to wait for the next train,” he added.
It will be interesting to mention that although he was quite uncertain about his future plans, but he insisted that he will hopefully try his best to defend his gold medals in the next year.
On the other hand, ex-F1 driver, Rubens Barrichello is going to move to Brazilian Stock Car V8 series in the coming year after racing in IndyCar for one year.
The Brazilian driver could not stay in IndyCar as he failed to get the required sponsorship. Nevertheless, he has expressed that he is positively looking forward to take part in the Stock Car championship in the next season at his homeland.
“After 20 plus years representing Brazil racing all over the world, it is time to come home,” Barrichello said.
