The former Chelsea defender has come out and criticized Abramovich for being too hasty with his decision to dismiss Andre Villas Boas from the London club as he was not given enough time to implement his ideas...
Alex, the Brazilian centre back has revealed that according to him Andre Villas Boas was not given enough time to work his magic at Stamford Bridge. AVB was made the Chelsea manager in the summer of 2011 when Carlo Ancelotti was
relieved of his duties as Chelsea’s manager.
The Portuguese was brought over from Porto and made in-charge of bringing in changes at Chelsea, a club that was threatening to descend down a downward slope as most of the players at the club were old and the squad was limited.
The new manager was tasked to revive the club with his new approach and in the process take Chelsea to former glories. However Villas Boas was not given enough time or authority to implement his ideas at Stamford Bridge.
When the manager tried to challenge the authority of senior players in the dressing room by leaving them out, he was held back by their squad power. Chelsea’s results also went downhill and as a result the Portuguese tactician
failed to get the players to believe in his project. As a consequence, Roman Abramovich decided to part ways with Villas Boas and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Di Matteo was appointed as the club’s temporary manager.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 shed light on the issue by stating, "Andre should have been given more time. After all, the club spent a lot of money getting him from Porto and needed to take into account that there was a new manager with new players to
settle in.”
He added, "Everybody [at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786] was starting to look over their shoulders because Manchester City had arrived in the top four and Spurs were catching up."
Andre Villas Boas has since then taken over at Tottenham Hotspur who recently parted ways with their manager Harry Redknapp. It will be interesting to see how he does at White Hart Lane given that he has full backing of Tottenham’s
chairman, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Levy.
