Alexander Alekseev scheduled to defend his newly acquired gold against Firat Arslan – Boxing news
Alexander Alekseev, the current EBU (European) cruiserweight champion, has been scheduled to defend his gold against the former WBA world cruiserweight champion, Firat Arslan, in a 12-round bout which will take place on May 11, 2012.
The whole pay-per view is still being constructed and will be a joint venture of Universum Box-Promotion and EC Boxpromotion. The ring for the event will be stretched at EMS arena situated in Goppingen, Germany.
Alexander, 30, has been in a total 25 bouts and came out victorious in 23. He has collected a whopping 20 wins by knockout and ranks emphatically at the ninth rank in the world.
The Hamburg hailing southpaw is on a huge, intimidating win streak and has won three different titles in his last three bouts. In the bout against Damian Norris, the Russian pugilist grabbed the vacant WBO Asia Pacific cruiserweight title. In addition, after
the above bout, Alexander clashed with Daniel Bruwer for the vacant WBC International cruiserweight title and successfully engraved his name over it.
In his last bout against Enad Licina, Alekseev collected a unanimous decision win in order to become the EBU cruiserweight champion. Alexander will enter the ring in his first title defence bout against the veteran Firat.
Arslan, has been in a total 38 bouts and came out victorious in 32. He has also collected a decent number of wins by knockout, 21 to be specific. The 41-year-old recently collected a technical knockout win over Lubos Suda and grabbed the vacant PABA and
IBF international cruiserweight titles.
Firat, who snatched the WBA world cruiserweight gold successfully from Valery Brudov, will have his hometown advantage that might increase his chances of winning the bout if Alexander does not put forth the German a tough bout.
Alexander faces a dual disadvantage that is he has to brawl Firat in his home ground and he is seriously overshadowed by the former champion’s experience. At the same time he also has a bit upper hand in two facets that is height and therefore the reach
and last but not the least the age factor.
After the settlement and finalisation of the contract Firat excitedly said, “I am very happy that now everything been resolved. And of course I am even more happy that i get to fight in my home. With the fans behind me I will take the title.”
Peter Hanraths, a consultant at Universum, shared his thoughts about the epic clash and said, “Such a duel is much more exciting than a fight with an unknown American or Russian.”
The remaining pay-per-view and the co-main event are still to be decided and further announcements will be made in the next few days.
