Alexander Bjork ready to sell himself in shares
Alexander Bjork of Sweden has come up with a unique idea of funding his training and travel around the Nordic state by selling shares of his name.
An investment company, named ‘Trade in Sports’, is currently working on a new project of helping the golf players in the Nordic region. According to the scheme, the company will assist the talented players move forward without the fear of financial constraints.
The testing phase of the new project starts from selling the shares of Bjork and the investors will benefit by claiming 15 per cent of any prize money that the players will receive in the upcoming four years.
The Chief Executive of Trade in Sports Claes Holmstrom told Reuters that the company will offer shares of 100 crowns each with an aim of raising 396,000 Swedish crowns.
The amount will then be used to pay training and travelling expenses paid by the player. Holmstrom also cleared the idea by saying that the people will be investing in the players rather than gambling on them.
"You are investing in them rather than gambling on them," said Holmstrom, whose main activity so far has been selling shares in a harness-racing horse.
The players, in turn, will also benefit from the investments, as they can spend more time in training sessions and make it to the bigger stage – the European Tour.
"Last year he won about 150,000 crowns and so far this year he has earned 75,000 crowns," he said. "When it comes to athletes, it is a fact today that if you don't have financial support it gets tough to get competitive within the sports industry”.
Bjork, in the meantime, is also happy with the idea of being the first player to be offered to the public for trading purpose.
"It feels great to be among the first and I hope that others will be able to benefit if it's a success," Bjork told Reuters about the share sale scheme.
The investors from different part of the world have also praised the idea of investing in sportspeople, as it will bring improvements in the standards of the game.
