Alexander Dale Oen and Sara Nordenstam nab titles: Day one – Norway Long Course Championships
Day one of the 2011 Norway Long Course Championships began in stunning fashion with the dramatic swims of Alexander Dale Oen and Sara Nordenstam in Drammen, on Saturday, July 9.
Alexander Dale Oen won the Men’s 50m breast-stroke event, whereas, Sara Nordenstam secured victory in the Women’s 400m Individual Medley. She also snagged the gold title in the Women’s 100m breast-stroke. Cecilie Johannessen nabbed the Women’s 200m freestyle
crown, while Snildal grabbed the Women’s 50m back-stroke meet. Gard Kvale won the Men’s 400m freestyle crown, whereas, Sindri Jakobsson secured the Men’s 100m butterfly race. Finally, Eirik Ravnan snagged the Men’s 200m IM title.
Dale Oen clinched victory in the Men’s 50m breast-stroke meet in 27.56 seconds. The scintillating performance moved him to 24th spot in the international swimming rankings of the current year.
Sara Nordenstam took home the Women’s 400m IM crown with a winning time of 4 minutes and 46.29 seconds. She also won her second gold title in the Women’s 100m breast-stroke meet.
In another event, Cecilie Johannessen hit the wall in 2 minutes and 01.66 seconds to nab the Women’s 200m freestyle title. On the other hand, Snildal earned the first place honours in the Women’s 50m back-stroke event in 29.50 seconds.
The Men’s 400m freestyle title was captured by Gard Kvale in 3 minutes and 58.96 seconds. Morten Bordervich wound up second in 4 minutes and 06.27 seconds, whereas, Oscar Slaatmo settled third in a time of 4 minutes and 06.83 seconds.
The Men’s 100m butterfly meet was grabbed by Sindri Jakobsson in 55.64 seconds, while Eirik Ravnan snared the Men's 200 IM crown in 2 minutes and 08.08 seconds.
The Women’s 400m freestyle relay title was taken over by Loken, Pedersen, Gjemmestad and Andersen in 3 minutes and 55.61 seconds. Additionally, Solli, Bomstad, Kvale and Broberg Skeltved took home the Men's 800 freestyle relay with a winning time of 7 minutes
and 40.62 seconds.
The Norway Long Course Championships will continue for four more days, where swimmers are expected to put in their best efforts to secure podium finishes.
