Alexander Dale Oen impresses in Drammen: Day three – Norway Long Course Championships
Day three of the Norway Long Course Championships began in stunning fashion with the dominating performance of Alexander Dale Oen in Drammen, Norway, on Monday, July 11.
The session conducted several scintillating events, where Alexander Dale Oen won the Women’s 100m breast-stroke race. Lavrans Solli secured victory in the Men’s 50m back-stroke meet, whereas, Alexander Broberg Skeltved took home the Men’s 400m Individual
Medley crown. Cecilie Johannessen snagged the gold medal in the Women’s 400m freestyle category.
Initially, Dale Oen put up a wonderful show in the Men’s 100m breast-stroke meet and captured the stunning victory in 59.98 seconds. More importantly, this performance moved him to third spot in the world rankings. Kosuke Kitajima retains the number one
tag in the international swimming rankings of the year with a record time of 59.44 seconds, whereas, Yuta Suenaga is third with 59.93 seconds.
In the meantime, Sverre Naess hit the wall in 1 minute and 04.18 seconds to settle second and Sebastian Wigstrom rounded out the top three in a time of 1 minute and 04.57 seconds.
Norwegian swimmer, Alexander Dale Oen was indeed amused and thrilled by his individual performance in the competition. He secured the gold medal in the Men’s 100m breast-stroke meet at the 2008 European Championships, in Eindhoven. In the corresponding race,
he also snared the gold medal at the 2010 European Championships, in Budapest.
Moreover, Dale Oen won the silver title in the Men’s 100m breast-stroke finale at the 2008 Olympic Games, in Beijing. At this point in time, he is preparing for the 2012 Olympic Games, in London.
In another event, Lavrans Solli clinched the Men’s 50m back-stroke with a sterling time of 26.26 seconds. Amazingly, Solli broke Tom Karlsen’s previous record of 26.36 seconds, set back in 2000. Meanwhile, Naess wound up second in 26.77 seconds and Lars
Andre Tolas earned third place honours in 27.48 seconds.
The Men’s 400m IM crown was captured by Alexander Broberg Skeltved with a winning time of 4 minutes and 34.79 seconds. Eirik Ravnan earned silver in 4 minutes and 40.46 seconds, whereas, Morten Bordervich snared bronze in 4 minutes and 41.00 seconds.
Additionally, the Women’s 400m freestyle relay title was taken over by Cecilie Johannessen with a victorious time of 4 minutes and18.02 seconds, while Elin Slaatmo wound up second in a time of 4 minutes and19.74 seconds. The bronze medal went to Victoria
Loken in 4 minutes and 22.19 seconds.
The event is a good platform for athletes to warm-up, as Norwegian swimmers are also set to compete at the 2011 FINA World Championships, starting from July 16 in Shanghai, China.
