Alexander Gustafsson grabs unanimous win over Thiago Silva – UFC News
Alexander Gustafsson, the Swedish light heavyweight mixed martial art proud, grabbed a huge win of his career by nailing the returning Brazilian proud Thiago Silva, after collecting a three-round unanimous win on April 14, 2012.
The above bout headlined UFC’s first ever event held in Sweden since its inception and put forth the Swedish mixed martial art fans an impressive showdown to remember. The octagon was stretched at Ericsson Globe Arena situated in Stockholm, Sweden and the
event was co-headlined by the non-title bout between Paulo Thiago and Siyar Bahadurzada.
Alexander, 25, was in dire need of a breakthrough and needed a win that could aid him in attracting media’s attention; his efforts finally came to fruition. The young Swedish lad was entering in his career’s 15th bout and boasted 14 wins, ten by knockout,
three by submission and one by decision.
Widely known as ‘The Mauler’, Alexander was taking on a Brazilian veteran who is famous for his pound-for-pound brawling stance. Alexander was on a long four-bout win streak and boasted wins over Matt Hamill, James Te Huna and others. Thiago, on the other
hand, was going through a series of tough events and was making a comeback after the lapse of almost 12 to 13 months.
The Brazilian proud boasts wins over many hefty names such as Keith Jardine and Antonio Mendes and take on men such as Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans and others.
The non-title bout started and the injury-plagued Thiago was unable to put up a great show. Alexander, from the very first second, had a clear upper hand and did not allow Silva to capitalise any of his mistakes.
Silva, who was entering in his career’s 18th bout, strived hard to avoid Gustafsson’s battering but the Swedish’s game plan truly outwitted Silva who eventually lost the bout via unanimous decision.
After the win, the proud Alexander commented, “All I can say is I’m proud to fight here in my home country in my hometown. I just want to take the fights the UFC gives me and do what I love to do: fight.”
With this win Alexander has substantially moved up in the rankings and it is being predicted that his future opponent, this time, might possibly be any of the top names in the division.
Thiago needs to revamp his strategies if he wants to come back in the promotion with a boom. Silva now has three losses and 14 wins in his resume and Alexander, on the other hand, has strengthened his win streak by one more win. The event, which was UFC’s
second episode, was televised live on Fuel TV.
