Alexander Gustafsson thinks he can beat Jon Jones – UFC News
Alexander Gustafsson is one fighter who thinks he can defeat light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, if he ever gets the chance. Gustafsson has watched and studied his inspiration Shogun Rua enough to give Jones the fight of his life.
Gustafsson currently stands with 14 wins and 1 loss in his career, and he is considered among the most promising fighters today. He will be facing Mauricio Rua at UFC on Fox 5 in Seattle, Washington, on December 8. For Gustaffson, it will be the biggest
match of his career but he is hopeful that he would pass it with ease.
According to Gustaffson, it is an honour to face Rua in the ring, as he has been studying him since his early fighting years.
“He's a fighter I've been looking up to since I was young and getting started in my career. So, it's a good opportunity for me to show the world I belong with the top guys in my division. So, yeah, I'm really looking forward to it,” said Gustaffson in an
interview with Jon Anik of Fuel TV.
It should be noted here that if Gustaffson is able to grab a dominating win over Rua, he will be a step closer to facing the champion.
Jon Jones is currently scheduled to face The American Gangster at The Ultimate Fighter season 17 next year. Jones showdown against Sonnen is an unmerited one, which is the reason no one is hoping for a major upset. Many are of the view that Sonnen is an
easy kill for Jones, who only took the fight to silence The American Gangster for good.
“It's really good feedback when people mention me in those terms with Jon Jones. Right now, it's just 'Shogun' for me. That's my only focus. I don't look past any opponent, and he's absolutely my most dangerous opponent, so far,” he said.
For now, Gustafsson hopes to make a statement against Shogun Rua so he can get a shot at Jones soon. There are others in the line too who are waiting for Jones to get free from his commitments to challenge him for the title.
