Alexander Hancock conquers Men’s 200m butterfly title: Day three – 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games
Alexander Hancock of New Zealand conquered the gold medal of Men’s 200m butterfly swim on the last day of the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games in Isle of Man.
Hancock presented an astonishing swim in the Men’s distant butterfly swim by submitting a winning time of 1 minute and 58.79 seconds. The 18-year-old New Zealander entered the finals as the fourth fastest swimmer, whereas, he geared up his swim in the final
round to show an incredible improvement in his timing. His scintillating effort helped him capture the title of the butterfly discipline.
Hancock was trailed by his closest competitor, Matthew Johnson of England, who was just 0.01 seconds slower than the gold medallist and occupied the gold medal of the event, by ending his swim in a second fastest time of 1 minute and 58.80 seconds. Johnson
was chased by Hendrick Alberts of South Africa, who was just 0.35 seconds behind the silver medallist and reached the podium for the bronze medal, by clocking a time of 1 minute and 59.15 seconds.
In the meantime, the arena sighted Daniel Woods of Wales, who remained 1.07 seconds slower than his foregoing swimmer and posted a time of 2 minutes and 00.22 seconds for the fourth spot. Martin Vogel of South Africa was the fifth fastest finisher of the
event, as he remained 0.80 seconds behind Woods and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 01.02 seconds.
Moments later, Jian Han Tern of Malaysia appeared as the sixth finest swimmer of the discipline by completing his swim in a time of 2 minutes and 05.53 seconds. Tern was followed by Matthew Courtis of Barbados, who ended his swim in a seventh ranked time
of 2 minutes and 14.15 seconds. Courtis was trailed by Chia Khian Chi of Malaysia, who was disqualified in the final lap of the swim due to an inappropriate stroke.
In addition, the arena appreciated the commendable efforts of all participants, while the winners were invited on the victory stand after the completion of the session.
