Zenit St. Petersburg striker, Alexander Kerzhakov has made Liverpool FC wait for his answer to the club's offer. The player has claimed to receive a transfer request from the English side, but is refusing to give a definite answer till the end of the Russian
season, which ends later this month.
The Reds had sent scouts to watch the 27-year-old Russian international with a view to a move in January.
Liverpool manager, Roy Hodgson has admitted that he wants to bring in strikers this winter to take the goal scoring burden off Fernando Torres, but is not yet sure whether he will be able to strike the deals, given the recent change of club-ownership. Hodgson
will also have to convince the newly appointed director of football at Anfield, Damien Comolli, before any transfer deal could go through.
However, the Russian international has spoken about Liverpool’s offer, and has revealed that the Merseyside club approached his agent in this regard.
“The talk about Liverpool is not baseless. The British club came to my agent with a proposal. I have other things to think about and in all respects I am happy in Russia. My team is in first place in the national championship and I have always said that
I wanted to play for Zenit.”, he said.
Kerzhakov stopped short of ruling out a transfer away from the Russian outfit, to Europe’s top clubs and a switch to Liverpool might prove to be a tempting move for the striker.
The striker experienced a difficult time in his previous endeavours outside Russia, when he failed to impress during his two-year-stint at Atletico Madrid.
The player moved from the Spanish Capital to Dynamo Moscow in 2008, before coming to Zenit in January this year.
Kerzhakov currently has 3 more years left on his contract and his club is under no financial pressure to sell him.
Liverpool are scouring Europe ahead of the January window and have been in contact with 19-year-old Real Sociedad winger Antoine Griezmann.
