Alexander Noren crouching for another victory on the European Tour at Castelló Masters
Rising Norwegian star Alexander Noren has now taken full advantage of rookie Tom Lewis’ withdrawal from the latest episode of Castelló Masters on the European Tour and has now surfaced as the leader through the halfway mark. Starting off the day with a meager
two-under, 69 on the card at the sprawling Club de Campo del Mediterraneo in Valencia Spain, Noren forged his way to the top with a blistering eight-under, 63 on the second day. The Norwegian Carded eight birdies in all in his bogey-free round.
Noren has won twice this year on the European Tour and has three professional victories on the tour. He won the Nordea Masters earlier in the season, utilizing the advantage of playing on his home course, and later went over to win the Saab Wales Open ahead
of the Open Championship. Noren has come out to be a strong contender for the 2012 Ryder Cup scheduled next year in Medinah County Illinois and will probably be able to make it in the team on merit.
Lewis, the rising Englishman who pulled in his first professional victory last week at the Portugal Masters only in his third start, triggered quite a stir in the sports circle. He has apparently withdrawn after acquiring a virus leaving his group mates,
Sergio Garcia and defending champion Matteo Manassero on their own.
Englishman Ross McGowan, who rocketed to the top in the first round with his score of seven-under, 64, had a less fortunate day in the second round, scoring a meager one-under, 70. He pulled in an impressive show on the opening day, carding five birdies
and a glorious eagle at par-four, 17th. McGowan is standing at 163rd on the Race to Dubai Rankings and needs to rise all the way to 115th in order to retain his tour card for the next season.
Top Asian player Thongchai Jaidee, has done well in the opening two days so far to stay in contention for the top slot. Carding a decent first round of four-under, 67 on the first day, Jaidee has managed to pull three-under for the moment and is still playing
for his remaining three holes. He is currently tied for third alongside Richard McEvoy of England.
