Alexander Noren hopes for the Ryder Cup, planning to win the ISPS Handa Wales Open
Alexander Noren will be playing the ISPS Handa Wales Open. He shared that he desires to be a part of the 2012 European Tour’s Ryder Cup.
The 29-year-old Swedish professional golf player is the defending champion of the event staged at the The Celtic Manor Resort in the City of Newport, Wales.
He has never played the Ryder Cup and wants to be a part of it in the current year. The 12-man European Team will be defending the title against the 12-man American Team, at the Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Illinois.
In 2010, the European Team defeated the Americans with a one-point lead. Most impressively, the European Team recorded the win at the same venue, where the ISPS Handa Wales Open is staged this year.
Noren was unable to be in the team in 2010. Now, he is looking positively towards it and wants to join the 12-man squad, by defending and winning the ISPS Handa Wales Open this week.
“Last year I thought about The 2010 Ryder Cup a lot,” said Noren. “When you see a course on TV and see what the players do, you naturally think about it when you play it”.
“You remember what happened on different holes and the tough shots the players made. It makes you think about the difficult putts they made to win, and you think to yourself ‘I’m going to try to make a putt like that”.
He added, “I’m playing okay. It was nice to play well in Asia two weeks running and my game is a lot better than it was at the start of the year – I feel a lot better, physically and mentally. I still need to improve a bit”.
He knows the fact that to be in the European Team, he needs to work hard and harder till September. The team is not selected yet. The selection will be based on the points table and that is currently dominated by Rory McIlroy.
On the other hand, Paul Lawrie, Justin Rose, Martin Kaymer, Peter Hanson, Luke Donald, Lee Westwood and Graeme McDowell are also holding the top positions on the points table.
Noren is on the 31st position of the European Points List and on the 46th position of the World Points List. Hence, only a win can help him increase his points and chances to play the first Ryder Cup.
