Alexander Noren hoping to reinvent his glorious run from last year in this week’s ISPS Handa Wales Open
Swede Alexander Noren is running on a high note after qualifying for the US Open yet again and is contemplating to repeat his spectacular run from last year where he landed the Saab Wales Open right after the qualification.
Noren will be returning to his favourite hunting ground at Celtic Manor in hopes of repeating his splendid run last year and is eager to tee-off this week at the star-studded ISPS Handa Wales Open.
He said, “It was pretty much exactly the same how it happened last year. I was so pleased to get into the US Open, so I took this week as I was on a high, and then winning here was fantastic and it just went on from there”.
Known for his long drives off the tee, Noren likes the long courses where players have to hit straight off the tee and considers this as an edge to his style of game.
He added, “The course suits my eye. I like the long, big courses where if you can drive it well, you've got a big chance. So that was the key for me last year at this course, the driving. You need to hit the fairways because this is a tough course”.
Noren insisted that he feels a lot better as compared to his form last season and said that he has done gruesome training in the last three months to increase his chances of retaining the title.
He won the Saab Wales Open at the revered Celtic Manor Resort with a two shot victory over Frenchman Gregory Bourdy and Dane Anders Hansen.
He went over to card his second title of the season, the Nordea Masters with a whooping seven shot lead over Englishman Richard Finch.
Winner of three professional titles on the European Tour, Noren has won a total of four professional titles in his short career after he turned professional in the year 2005.
His bid in the US Open last year culminated in a disappointing joint 51 but is hoping to post a better finish this year at the Olympics Golf Club in San Francisco.
