Alexander Noren pulls in a comfortable win at Nordea Masters on European Tour
Alexander Noren posted one of the most comprehensive victories of his career when he overpowered the rest of the field with a staggering seven shots, to win the Nordea Masters on the European Tour.
Heading into the final round with a record 11-shot lead, his victory was glistening on the horizon even before he teed off for his final 18 holes. This is Noren’s second victory for the season after he triumphed in the Saab Wales Open last month.
“It’s the same for everyone so you just have to try and put your best foot forward so I just tried to hit the fairway, hit the green, and see where we can get from there. Luckily I managed to get off to a great start with a couple of birdies in the bank,
and managed to keep the momentum going,” said Noren while speaking to reporters after his win.
The final day turned out to be a difficult one at the exorbitantly long Bro Hof Slott in Sweden and most of the players were not able to break par in the heavy gusts of wind. Englishman Finch Richard, who had been pushing for contention from the third day,
was the only player who broke par with his score of three-under, 69.
Noren had a disappointing final day where he negotiated his way through the tough conditions, posting a round of five-over, 77 after falling in for no fewer than five dreadful bogeys. He opened up his front nine with a birdie but went into a spree of dropping
shots from there onwards.
The Swede made the turn after dropping four shots on the front nine and crashed into the par-four, 14th for a double-bogey. He stumbled on another bogey and finally decided to pull in a birdie on the penultimate hole to call it a day. Although
weary and jaded, Noren was quite satisfied that he avoided the notorious 17th, where the green is located on an island.
Richard fell in for the fearsome 17th, dropping his shot twice on the hole. He had played remarkably well throughout the whole day and carded six birdies for his final 18 holes. Noren collected a cheque of € 250,000. He has three wins on the European
Tour and has also posted a victory on the Challenge Tour.
