Alexander Noren will defend his title at The Celtic Manor Resort
Alex Noren is in the field of the ISPS Handa Wales Open, planning to defend the title by registering high scores.
The 29-year-old Swedish professional golf player is the winner of the European Tour staged event that was named as the Saab Wales Open in 2011.
He has high plans this year and is hoping to impress the spectators at the The Celtic Manor Resort in the City of Newport, Wales.
The defending champion scored 9-under 275 in 2011, and recorded a win with a two-stroke lead amazingly. He made 17 massive birdies and carded only eight bogeys throughout the four-day event.
Now, his high plans are impressive. He can win the title again, by hitting the same scores, or by saving over par strokes.
“I’d had a tough time on that course before, but last year everything felt really great and I played very well,” Noren said.
“I was excellent from tee to green. All the memories and the things you look back on when you recall a win come to mind and make you feel good. It’s going to be really fun to go back there this year”.
He added, “I was so pleased with how I drove the ball and hit the irons. I really felt like an improved player and it was a nice feeling going head to head with Anders Hansen, who is world-class. I’ve always looked up to him and admired his game, so to go
up against him on the last day and beat him was a nice feeling”.
Noren turned professional in 2005 and since then he recorded three European Tour victories, and one on the Challenge Tour. He still desires to show some outstanding game at the major events.
Chris Wood, David Drysdale, Colin Montgomerie, Jose Maria Olazabal, Paul Lawrie, Thomas Bjorn, Oliver Wilson, Tom Lewis, Jbe Kruger, Peter Lawrie and Tommy Fleetwood are also in the field of the ISPS Handa Wales Open.
Hence, the field is tough and Noren needs to be extra committed to be the winner again. He knows the course well. He is familiar with all the plain, rough, greenways and difficult sectors of the course.
