Alexander Rossi to appear for a test drive at Abu Dhabi Young Driver Test – Formula 1 news
Alexander Rossi will be testing for Lotus in the upcoming Abu Dhabi young driver test.
The American has previous Formula 1 experience under his belt when he tested for BMW at the 2009 Young Driver Test. He also finished third in the Formula Renault 3.5 championship this year. The 20-year-old has a packed schedule as he is also going to be
driving for Team AirAsia in the GP2 final at the Yas Marina. Team AirAsia is owned by Lotus boss Tony Fernandes.
Lotus chief and Team AirAsia principal Riad Asmat mentioned that they are very excited to have Alexander Rossi on board for the Abu Dhabi GP2 race and then the Formula 1 test. He also mentioned how he has been working very well with the GP2 team during the
tests in Spain, and is specially looking forward to build on that working relationship and to build the young drivers’ confidence.
“We are all looking forward to both events and I am sure he will perform to the best of his ability whenever he is on track,” Asmat added.
He also said that Rossi has shown a lot of maturity and confidence on the track and that is why they have put their faith in him and decided to put him in the car for the GP2 finale. It is good for his experience and the Young Driver Test will channel his
development as a driver in the right direction for the future.
Rossi talked about the opportunity he has been given and said, “I am very excited to finally announce I will be competing in Abu Dhabi with Caterham Team Air Asia and will have the chance to put more F1 miles on my CV.”
“After the positive GP2 tests in Jerez and Barcelona I feel we have a good chance of a strong result in the GP2 races and I will definitely be going into the weekend fully focused and motivated for a race win,” he added.
It will be interesting to follow the young American driver’s career, as he has shown much promise in becoming a very talented potential Formula 1 driver.
