Alexander Semin still not sure on where next season could be spent -NHL Free Agency Update
Where Alexander Semin will end up is one of the biggest mysteries of this year’s National Hockey League (NHL) offseason as the veteran left winger has clearly termed a comeback to Washington Capitals not in the pipeline.
According to earlier reports, Alexander Semin had termed the next season to be back in his native Russian, Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), but now it seems like the forward is planning on staying in the North American major league, if he gets what he wants.
At the moment, it is still now clear where Semin could be headed or which teams are most likely going after him with full force, but some like Carolina Hurricanes have come out in the open.
"We would look at Semin on a short-term basis," Carolina general manager Jim Rutherford said earlier in July. "We wouldn't want to get locked in to anything because we've all heard the stories about him. We do like his skill level. It could be that we could
bring him in for a year, get to know him and go from there in terms of considering something long-term."
Now on the verge of losing their captain, Shea Weber, Nashville Predators might be looking at Semin but since they lost two defenders, getting a forward is not the first thing on their priority list at the moment.
New Jersey Devils seem like a good option for Semin as they lost top forward, Zach Parise, and could be a team where he comes out as the top man, something he was not able to achieve with Alex Ovechkin on the line in Washington.
One thing that is not on Semin’s side is his arrogant nature of being a player that cannot be commanded to do anything he is not up for. Teams are willing to bring the forward on board looking at his 54 point (21 goals, 33 assists) performance last year,
but he will have to be a part of a team and not make it a one man show.
Updates on Alexander Semin’s status should be expected in the upcoming days, if not weeks.
