Alexander Serebrayakov wins the fifth stage of the Tour De Korea 2012
Alexander Serebrayakov of Team Type 1-Sanofi wins the fifth stage of the Tour De Korea after his tremendous performance during the race.
He completed the 146.8 kilometre pursuit to Gumi in the fastest time of 3 hours, 57 minutes and 19 seconds to grab the top podium spot.
The cyclist helped the team with its first victory of the 2012 season and thanked his team-mates for their constant support throughout the race.
The team previously succeeded during the stage 3 of the race but the judges disqualified the win by ruling it as illegal sprinting.
It was the same Russian, Alexander who secured the stage but had to wait a little longer for his first victory of the season.
Chan Jae Jang of Team Terengganu Cycling Team was declared as the ultimate winner of the race with Ken Hanson, Maximiliano Richeze and Aldo Ino IIesic achieving the next three positions.
"The pressure was off psychologically because we feel like we actually won the stage two days ago, before being relegated, and today was a chance for us to build on our confidence and win a little justice for Team Type 1-Sanofi," Alexander explained.
Frederic Moncassin is the team’s Sports Director and he was delighted after the stage victory.
"For 30 minutes on Tuesday after the race we sat in the anti-doping room with the flowers and the victory medal".
"Then one person from the organization came over to tell us we lost, took away the medal and the flowers, and there was no way to make a counterargument or explain the situation, because it was a done deal," he concluded.
Maximiliano Richeze of Team Nippo, Aaron Kemps of Team Champion System Pro Cycling, Sung Baek Park of Team KSPO and Leonid Krasnov of Team RusVelo achieved the next four positions.
Chan Jae Jang is currently leading the stage 5 classifications with a total lead of 5 seconds over Alexander Candelario.
David McCann of RTS Racing Team is further 4 seconds behind at the third spot with Mauro Abel Richeze and Alexander Serebrayakov holding the fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
