Alexander Serebryakov wins the stage 5 of the Tour of Taihu Lake 2012
Alexander Serebryakov continued his tremendous form to bag a significant victory during the stage 5 of the Tour of Taihu Lake 2012.
He completed the 110.6 kilometre pursuit to Bamboo Forest Park race in an impressive time of 2 hours, 31 minutes and 55 seconds and restricted his major opponents.
Joeri Stallaert of Team Landbouwkrediet-Euphony, Kevin Peeters of Team Landbouwkrediet-Euphony, Leonid Krasnov of Team RusVelo and Ho Ting Kwok of Team Hong Kong occupied the second, third, fourth and fifth positions in the respective order.
The Russian was enchanted after winning the race and thanked his teammates for their endless support throughout the contest.
“I'm happy to still be alive today", Serebryakov told Cyclingnews.
"I can't accept congratulations from someone who made me risk my life yesterday. I'm lucky that I didn't crash. There's no respect in the sprints here".
"Today it was nervous again and the final straight was hard because of the head wind blowing from the left.
“There isn't one team able to give the direction to the sprint. It comes and attacks from everywhere”.
"My team-mate Aldo Ilesic took the wind for me. I was waiting, waiting... till I found the right timing for sprinting but I remain bitter about what happened yesterday”.
Serebryakov managed to claim the maximum number of 14 points during the race with Joeri Stallaert (12 points), Kevin Peeters (10 points), Leonid Krasnov (8 points) and Ho Ting Kwok (6 points) securing the next four positions respectively.
Benjamin Giraud, Christoph Schweizer and Stuart Shaw succeeded during the first sprint of the race while Benjamin Giraud, Fuyu Li and Stuart Shaw winning the Sprint 2 of the event.
Milan Kadlec of Team ASC Dukla Praha is leading the stage 5 overall classifications with a lead of 9 seconds over Floris Goesinnen of Team Drapac Cycling.
Ki Ho Choi of Team Hong Kong, David McCann of Team RTS Racing and King Lok Cheung of Team Hong Kong claimed the third, fourth and fifth positions in the respective manner.
Alois Kankovsky of Team ASC Dukla Praha is leading the stage 5 points classifications with a total number of 48 points in his back pocket.
Alexander Serebryakov (42 points), Benjamin Giraud (29 points), Yuri Metlushenko (27 points) and Leonid Krasnov (26 points) occupied the second, third, fourth and fifth positions respectively.
